Cherry Scones 07/18/2011
I don't just bake cakes. Sometimes I want a classic treat. a chocolate chip cookie and sometimes, just sometimes I want scones. There is something about the dry, crumbly bread of a scone that tastes great with coffee or tea... yum! Add Comment Class of 2011 05/27/2011
It's that time of year.... Graduation time. Completing a chapter of their lives in order to begin their new journeys is exciting; sitting on the edge of their lives ready to take the leap. I am always happy to be able to share this special moment with people by making their sweet treats. Sweetness Cakery created a completely sassy sweet graduation table. The table is complete with chocolate covered pretzels dressed as diplomas and a completely sassy zebra gourmet chocolate covered strawberry bouquet. Absolutely delicious! I received a call from a girl who wanted a GRR robot cake for her baby sister, "a wha-wha-what cake?" I asked. She tried to explain the basic premise of the Nickelodeon cartoon. Somewhere after I heard a "pig alien dressed as Grr," I realized that I couldn't follow the cartoons of today. Lucky for me, google has all the answers. Although I still don't quite understand the cartoon, Grr is a cute little alien who enjoys cupcakes and tacos. I enjoyed creating this cake for Armonie and I was told that she LOVED her cake. Yay! We've been creatitng quite a few sugar cookies at the cakery lately, you may just call us a cookie-ery! Although we do have the most delicious and soft vanilla sugar cookies, we think the sudden interest in these individual treats has been part of a new craze. What ever the reason, we enjoy creating cookie masterpieces. ![]() created for a Jungle themed Baby Shower Some are straight from our sugar-infused brain and others are inspired by the party decor, popular characters, or are mimiced from the cake itself. Cookies are great for centerpieces or party favors, some have even replaced them for cake, although we would never recommend that! Please enjoy a look at the recent sugar cookies we've made. Happy Caking, Yvette T. Am I seeing double? 03/11/2011
There are quite a few times in a bakers life when he is stressed, its just part of the job. However, one of the most stressful for me is recreating something that acutally exists. You see, as a sugar artists, most things are my interpretations, so you only see what I put in front of you and think its great! But, when it comes to recreating something, stress builds and builds, and builds and never really is released until we hear the clients reaction. This lovely sugar cookie is a recreation of the bridesmaids dresses in a wedding. This lovely cake was ordered by a husband to celebrate his beautiful wife's birthday. It is a recreation of her favorite purse the Louis Vuitton Brea Bag in a cherry brown patent leather. After creating the sugar version of this purse, it made me fall in love with the original, unfortunately its well over $1,000, so if anyone was thinking of a christmas gift for a lovely cake-maker... ah... heres one! I have to say that I'm a monkey lover. I think monkeys are just about the cutest little animals ever and am ridiculously excited anytime I am asked to make a monkey in cake form. This cute little guy was created after seeing the invitation. It was hard to give him up. But, I know that he was going to a good home. ;) Happy Caking, Yvette Stop and smell the sugar 02/01/2011
![]() Sugar Gardenias As the weather is slowly becoming warmer and spring comes closer we are seeing colorful flowers. Flowers are one of those things that make me feel happy. The complex beauty of a rose or the never-ending peony bud. I love flowers and until recently only created fantasy flowers in sugar, meaning I made flowers that I only saw in my head... However, I recently had the privelage and pleasure of taking a sugar flower class with renowned instructor Jaqueline Butler of Petalsweet.com. I cannont say enough great things about Jacqueline, she is a great instructor and would reccemend anyone who is interested in creating sugar flowesr to take one of her workshops. Happy Caking, Yvette Carter's Laguna Bedding Cake 01/27/2011
This cake was made to replicate the fun bedding that the mom had chosen to use for her baby boy. It is a double barrel cake, giving it a more grand appearance without the look of a traditional tiered cake. It is a moist butter cake with strawberry preserves whipped cream cheese filling and coconut shavings. Absolutely delicious! Matching sugar cookies were also created to give out as party favors for the baby shower attendees. Happy Caking, Yvette | Yvette TorresTake a ride through my adventures in sugar.
